Craft ‘n Connect – weaving stories for success

January 18, 2019chantelle

Michelle Joe knows just how to craft a narrative that will help her business clients tell their unique story to their client audience. Her business, Craft ‘n Connect, is there to help businesses write compelling content for websites, blogs, online newsletters and other digital channels.

Craft ‘n Connect is a new start up in Tauranga. Michelle has been operating in Tauranga since November 2018. Its main target market is small to medium sized businesses, start-ups, entrepreneurs and whoever has a story to tell and needs some help with putting it in words. “This includes businesses who rely on word of mouth for their success but would like to develop or improve their online presence,” Michelle says.

Michelle is very aware of the challenges faced by smaller businesses. “Lack of resources and budget are common problems,” she says. “Some businesses aren’t in a position to hire an in-house marketer or partner with a larger agency and may just want additional help on a short term or project basis.“

The personal touch that Michelle can provide is the key. “I work closely with my clients to really tailor my services to their needs.  With Craft ‘n Connect, there is no chain of people between the briefing process and the end result so I can offer a more direct and personable approach.“

With 8 years’ industry experience and a Bachelor of Communications degree from AUT University in Auckland (majoring in Creative Arts and PR), Michelle has a strong background in Digital Content Marketing and Project Management. She has worked for a number of industries in this capacity in sectors such as fast moving consumer goods, education, entertainment, tourism, travel & lifestyle, and retail for large corporate businesses and smaller agencies.

Setting up her own businesses has long been a dream for Michelle. She sees great opportunities to service the emerging niche market of start-ups in Tauranga. “What I do doesn’t limit me where I need to be physically so I chose somewhere I would enjoy living in. I love the ocean and the active lifestyle that Tauranga lends itself to. After living in various cities and overseas it’s also really nice to be closer to family and friends, who are only a short drive away.”

What Michelle loves most about her business is the opportunity for story-telling and crafting content that others love engaging with and being able to raise brand awareness for businesses. But it was not always easy getting the business off the ground. “Wearing so many hats as a business owner is challenging” she says. “But successfully pitching and winning my first client made it all worthwhile.”

Looking ahead Michelle’s goals are to “continually grow a loyal client base by delivering high quality work and great service.“

Michelle has received some great advice for her own start-up. “Be really clear about what your business is offering and don’t assume you always know what the client needs”. And – to those thinking about taking the leap her wisdom is “you only have one life. Take those risks even if it’s scary! You won’t know what might come of it if you don’t try.”
